How to Use a Mailing Tube
For various reasons, artists may find it necessary to use a mailing tube for shipping some of their work. Some must ship to customers, clients or family and friends. Regardless of the reason, mailing tubes are great way to ensure that their artwork does not become torn, wrinkled or creased. Once you have obtained a mailing tube, you can follow some of the tips and suggestions in the following.

  • Mailing tubes can be opened from either end. Remove cap from one end.
  • Roll item to be shipped into the shape of a cylinder that will adequately fit into mailing tube. It should also be loose so that the edges are not damaged.
  • Use care in sliding item into the mailing tube. Be gentle so that the item is not crushed against the other end of the tube.
  • Replace the end cap onto the mailing tube securely.
  • Obtain a large white mailing label that is self-adhesive. Clearly write recipient’s name and address in the center of label. Also place your name and address on the label in the left upper hand corner in case of a return.
  • Carefully place this label in the center of mailing tube shaft.
  • Check to be sure that both end caps are securely in place.
  • Mailing tubes can be taken to your local post office for weighing. This allows you to place the proper amount of postage on them for guaranteed delivery. You may also place insurance on your item or have it delivered as certified. This will give you the benefit of knowing that your recipient received the item.
