Proper Use of Paint Markers
Paint markers are often considered to be one of the greatest inventions ever. Many artists use these to create some of the most fascinating masterpieces. Paint markers offer vibrant and bold colors as well as versatility. They are easy to use and allow for precision and exceptional control. There are some tips and suggestions for properly using paint markers to create your next magnificent work of art.
Choose and prepare a canvas for your creation. You really don’t have to use a canvas as your surface with paint markers. Many artist use glass, rocks, concrete, porcelain, metal, wood or any other smooth non-porous surface. Paper can be used as well. It must be extremely thick. Newsprint should be placed beneath paper. Regardless of the surface, you should always clean the surface thoroughly. Dirt, grime and debris will adversely affect your work.
Always shake paint markers extremely well. Vigorously shake markers with the lid on in an up and down motion for two minutes.
Paint markers must be primed. Remove the marker cap and press the nib onto a sheet of folded newsprint. Press until paint flow begins.
With smooth strokes, you may now begin to draw. Never press hard on your surface. Small circular motions should be used to fill in with color.
Paint should flow easily from paint marker. If it does not, you should prime the marker again.
Additional coats and colors can only be applied after the first has been applied. If one color or one coat has not dried, colors will run together. Colors may also glob or pull off if not allowed to dry.
Never touch paint until it has been allowed to dry completely. Left-handed individuals must use care as they often smear paint with their hand.
