Cleaning Your Paint Brushes
Most artists agree that one of the greater expenses of their craft is paintbrushes. They often must purchase numerous brushes. Proper care of these brushes is imperative to their longevity and performance. In the following, there are some simple instructions and tips for cleaning your paintbrushes.

• There are certain things that will be needed for cleaning your paintbrushes. You will need to gather mild soap or turpentine, tissue and warm water. A clean area for drying brushes should also be chosen.
• Any excess paint should be wiped from brushes using a tissue or soft cloth.
• Brushes, filled with oil paints, should be rinsed with turpentine. Warm water should be used to rinse brushes that are filled with water based paints.
• Never use hot water for cleaning paintbrushes. This will cause brush hairs to fall out.
• After rinsing, gently cleanse paintbrushes with a mild soap. Follow this cleansing with a rinse in clean warm water. Repeat this process until all color comes out. Paintbrushes should be original color when clean.
• Thoroughly rinse cleaned paintbrushes in clean water again.
• Excess water should be shaken from paintbrushes.
• Brushes often lose their shape during cleaning process. Gently reshape brushes with your fingers.
• After brushes have been well cleaned, they are ready to be dried. Paintbrush bristles should be wrapped in tissue paper while wet. This helps brushes to regain their natural shape. Brushes need to dry at room temperature.
• Never allow paintbrushes to dry while resting on their bristles.
