
How to Pack Framed and Flat Prints for Shipment
Numerous artists find it necessary to ship their artwork from time to time. Often, you may find yourself shipping artwork to family and friends or customers. There are minimal supplies needed for this and it can safely be done. To keep your artwork secure and safe in the process of shipping, you should follow some of the simple suggestions in the following.
Packing and Shipping a Framed Print
Many shipping companies offer special boxes for shipping known as strong or mirror boxes. If at all possible, you should try to obtain one of these sturdy containers. Framed print should be wrapped in two to three layers of bubble wrap. Tape the bubble wrap for security. Shipping container should be reinforced. After placing framed print into container, you should fill all open areas inside with additional bubble wrap, tissue paper or packing peanuts. Make sure that framed print is totally immobile inside of shipping container. Seal every edge of shipping container with top grade tape for mailing. Use a permanent marker in a black or bold color to mark container as fragile. You should write the word “Fragile” on all sides of container.
Packing and Shipping a Flat Print
Acid free tissue paper should be used to cover entire flat print for protection. Put flat print between many layers of top grade cardboard. Seal the edges of the cardboard so that the flat print is unable to move. Thoroughly wrap again with two additional pieces of top quality cardboard. This will make your shipping package. Tape the outer edges securely with mailing tape. Write, stamp or label “Do Not Bend” on both sides of package. You can use a bold black permanent marker for this purpose if you wish.
