How to Use Green Screen Printing Film
In screen printing, there are many ways to make a stencil. Individuals may opt to cut out stencils or paint a screen for printing. With great advancements, there is now a type of stencil that makes this process much simpler. Green film is a material that is light sensitive. It makes short work of stenciling for screen printers.

  • First a desired image is drawn onto a sheet of paper that is the size of the film. Place a piece of acetate over the film. Next, the design is drawn with ink onto the sheet of acetate. All ink marks will be printed.
  • In a dark room, place a piece of glass on a surface that is flat. Place black cloth on glass. Remove protective backing from green film. Put green film on cloth with shiny side up. Place drawing on top of green film with ink side up. Place additional piece of glass on top of acetate. Clip each side in order to firmly hold it together. Put another piece of black cloth over the top.
  • Follow manufacturer’s instructions for amount of sunlight exposure required and place in sunlight.
  • After recommended time, bring work indoors. Remove clips. With gloved hands, place green film in a container of water. Manually move film about in water and brush away exposed film with fingers. Use paper towels to remove water. Allow film to be exposed to sun for around ten minutes. Cover with black cloth of felt. Allow to be undisturbed in a dark room throughout the night.
  • Use masking tape to attach green film to flat side of screen and begin printing.
