Gesso and Priming Materials

Using Gesso and Priming Materials in Your Studio
Gesso and other priming materials are used in preparing surfaces for painting. Gesso is thought to have been first developed in Italy. Preparation of Gesso varies dependent upon the use it is intended for. It is most generally produced using a glue and either chalk, plaster or gypsum. Gesso has quite a great resemblance to paint. It is somewhat thinner and dries hard. A large, used brush is best for applying Gesso. Surfaces treated with Gesso must be allowed to thoroughly dry before any paint can be applied. Gesso gives surfaces certain properties in order to properly receive paint. Using top quality gesso and painting materials in your studio will allow for better painting surfaces for your art projects.
