Bob Ross
Who is Bob Ross? (Joy of painting). Accomplished artist Bob Ross has been seen on many networks painting majestic mountains surrounded by heavenly clouds using large brushes made for house painting. He promotes that with some dedication to practice that anyone can create masterpieces that will literally flow from their brushes. They simply need the desire to make their dreams reality on canvas. His painting program, “Joy of Painting” was one of the most watched art shows in television history.
Soft spoken, Bob Ross hails from Orlando, Florida. He began a tour across the United States in 1981. On this tour, he began teaching his painting style to all he came in contact with. He was a great inspiration to many beginning artists as well as the accomplished. Annette Kowalski, a former class member, recognized his talents and abilities. She approached him with an offer of partnership. Soon the Bob Ross Company was formed and now has been in operation for over twenty-five years.

Joy of Painting History with Bob Ross
One of his first Joy of Painting programs was first shown in 1982. It was unedited and never rehearsed. There are now over 400 shows. Joy of Painting is shown by almost 450 television broadcasters around the United States. More than 90 million homes have access to the how-to programs. Many foreign countries also offer this programming such as Japan, South Korea, Mexico, United Kingdom, Austria and Costa Rica just to mention a few. Other countries are currently inquiring into possible airings.

Bob Ross and Joy of Painting have a huge fan base. Viewers of all ages from around the world send emails and letters. Ross’ painting method has been utilized globally in many therapeutic aspects. Programs for senior citizens, youth, handicap individuals and others are using this technique as part of therapy. Much of this popularity comes from viewers who are not actually painters or artists. They are basically individuals who enjoy relaxation while unwinding. Bob Ross’ mannerisms and gentle spoken words of encouragement captivate these viewers while they witness beauty being birthed on canvas.
Bob Ross Technique
Bob Ross has a style and technique that is all his own. He has devised brushes, paints and other tools. There is a great assortment of instructional materials available as well. Millions of books are in print. There are packets and videos for learning the technique. He has launched techniques to teach individuals how to paint flowers and wildlife. There are around 3,000 instructors who have been certified to travel and teach Bob Ross painting within the nation and other countries.
Wet on Wet Technique
One of Bob Ross’ most spectacular developments is the wet on wet technique. It is the method of painting where wet paint is applied to wet paint. Traditionally, painters allow one layer to dry before applying another. He used oil paints that are firm and begins with a canvas that has a wet base. Majestically, he uses a large brush to gracefully glide paints across a canvas. Magically, breathtaking mountains filled with trees appear suspended in the clouds.
