Student Grade Acrylics
Why are Student Grade Acrylics Cheaper? Many people wonder what the difference is between student grade acrylics and artist’s acrylics that make student acrylics cheaper than artist’s acrylics. The difference is that student acrylics have lower pigment concentrations, although they have many working characteristics that are very similar to artist’s acrylics. The more expensive pigments are typically replicated by hues and while colors are developed to be mixed, the color strength is much lower. In student grade acrylics, hues may not have the exact mixing characteristics that you would find in artist’s “full strength” colors.
Nonetheless, that does not mean that student grade acrylics do not have a purpose in the artist’s tool chest. Many artists prefer to work with student grade acrylics, and if you are just starting out as an artist and are still a student, these are optimal for you to use until you become more accomplished and develop your skills further.
