Scholastic Acrylics – A Perfect Learning Medium for Students. If you are an art student (or an art teacher) then you should consider less expensive scholastic acrylics when you are just gaining your wings as an artist. Let’s face it. Not every first creation will turn into a masterpiece, so why spend a lot of money on the acrylics that you use when you’re first “starting out”? Scholastic acrylics are made with inexpensive pigments and dyes that are economical for use in the classroom while still being safe for young artists. One drawback to scholastic acrylics is that they are limited to the most common primary and secondary colors and the actual pigments used in their creation are not specified. Scholastic acrylics may also have poor lightfastness as they use dyes as well as pigments in their makeup. However, they serve the purpose for beginning painters and are definitely worth a second look for budding artists.
