A Look at Molding a Pottery Bowl
Pottery is an art form in its own that has an ancient history. Pottery is made of clay; a natural product that is dug from the earth. Clay is molded into beautiful pieces such as bowls. Molded pieces are dried and then fired for hardening or curing. Bowls can be a fun and easy project for many beginning potters. Some potters use their hands for modeling bowls and others choose to use a wheel.

Modeled bowls must be allowed to thoroughly dry for a couple of days. It is important to place modeled bowls in a place that will not be exposed to direct sunlight. Never touch pieces during the drying period. Pieces are fired at high temperatures. Depending upon the clay used, kiln temperatures must be proper in order not to melt the potential masterpiece. Firing will harden the clay and give it the ability to hold liquids. Finished bowls can be painted after they have completely cooled from firing.
