Choose a glazed ceramic tile. If you choose a glazed tile, you will not have to seal your trivet.
Spray back of ceramic tile with an adhesive. Allow adhesive to set for one minute or until it is no longer wet but tacky feeling.
Place a piece of felt on the back of your tile. Press to secure felt to adhesive. Felt is used on the back of trivets to prevent them from scratching surfaces.
Trim all excess felt away from edges of tile. This is easily done using an Exacto knife.
Plain tiles can easily be decorated with paint. You may glaze these and place them in your oven for curing. Any design or décor can be matched using this technique of decorating trivets.
