Acrylic painting paper is an affordable working surface for both students and professional artists. Not all artwork starts out on an expensive canvas. In fact, budding artists are often wise to purchase different acrylic painting papers or canvas panels or pads for use during instruction while they master their “craft”.
Suitable for all types of media, including oils, acrylics, and tempera, these affordable portable packs are ideal for classroom purchase.
An affordable and green alternative to stretched canvas, Blick Canvas Pads each contain 10 sheets of medium-texture cotton canvas taken from remnants and end-runs, then triple-primed with acrylic gesso.
Manufactured in France, this heavyweight, textured paper is ideal for acrylic paint and wet techniques.
Acrylic paint is very versatile and can be used on a number of different acrylic painting papers or surfaces, including:
Canvas panels. These panels are usually made from linen and are typically affixed to either MDF (medium density fiber board) or Gatorboard, which is a lightweight but thick almost cardboard type of backing material. Canvas panels are both economical and high quality and are resistant to warping. These panels are usually sold in packs but each is individually wrapped. You can also find these in classroom size packs.
Canvas pads. These pads usually hold ten or more art canvases, and are very popular with student artists. The sheets inside are already primed and ready for acrylic paint.
Canva-paper. Canva-paper pads contain ten sheets of artist paper that has a texture that is almost like linen and that is primed for both acrylic and oil paint. Canva-pad sheets feature a layer that absorbs oil, water, and bonding agents.
Acrylic paper. Acrylic paper provides a non-archival surface for painting and creating works of art with acrylic paint – which makes it wonderful for beginning painters, students, and for use in instruction or sketching. Acrylic paper is usually heavyweight, which prevents warping, and is made with a textured surface that ensures paint adhesion.
Georgian oil pads. Made using wood pulp fibers, Georgian oil painting paper pads have twelve or more sheets of specially treated paper that can be used with both acrylic and oil paint. This acid-free paper preserves the paper’s integrity and can last for decades or longer. This paper is double-primed.
All of these papers and canvases can be a great and affordable way to flex your artistic skills while you are still learning your craft.
