Natural Sable-Kolinsky Brushes
Paint brushes used for art work are either soft or stiff fibers. These can be synthetic or natural fibers. Synthetic bristled brushes are much cheaper than natural fiber brushes. Many accomplished artist feel that the Sable-Kolinsky brushes are the best choice of all natural bristles. It is thought to be the most flexible and strongest natural fiber. This allows artists to have great control and precision in painting.

Da Vinci Black Sable Brushes Russian Black Sable, also known as Russian Fitch, is a portrait or realist painter's dream. This brush represents a perfect balance of the best qualities of bristle and sable. Black Sable is more stiff and substantial than Red Sable, but has an exceptional smoothness that leaves little stroke impression in the paint surface. The hair is extremely smooth. In fact, only certain master brushmakers at Da Vinci can form these fine tips without the hair slipping through their fingers. In the sun-filled rooms of the Da Vinci factory, production masters, interns, and apprentices sit at marble working tables. Brush hairs are glued into the ferrule by a dosing machine. Then the ferrule is filled with a modern component-glue. After the drying and curing process, all the hairs are firmly positioned. Sable-Kolinsky brushes are very soft brushes that are crafted from hair of the sable marten’s tail. They have a natural taper and come to a point. Sable-Kolinsky brushes are extremely expensive. Brushes of Sable-Kolinsky are coveted by many for their fine points and flexible bristles. Most experienced watercolor artists use the Sable-Kolinsky brush due to the extreme flexibility of the bristles.
