Skutt
During 1953, Ralph and Neil Skutt, father and son, designed and manufactured the first hobby kiln that featured multiple sides. It was manufactured using the name of Skutt & Sons in Olympia, Washington. Their kiln revolutionized the entire ceramic industry with its new and lightweight design bringing ceramics into homes around the world.
Throughout the past fifty years, may kiln companies have come and just as many have gone. A great deal has drastically changed in the ceramics industry. Many new glazes and clay bodies have been developed. With each new development, there is a great demand for more firing precision. Kiln sitters are being rapidly replaced by automatic controllers.
