Legion
Legion Paper is a go-to source for art paper that is second to none among artists. Legion has been doing business for quite some time, and artists have learned that they can turn to Legion fine art papers for many different projects. Legion offers watercolor papers, Thai papers, stationary and announcements and printmaking papers. They also offer Japanese papers, limited edition printing, drawing paper, digital art papers, decorative papers and blocks and pads.
As an artist you may have heard of Legion Paper but you may not know that they are a green, planet-friendly source for artist papers. Many of the papers that Legion produces are made using tree-free processes and recycling, some are mill-certified or chlorine free, while others are made in mills where alternative energy is used to power the processes that are used for making the paper.
For example, some Legion papers are made using water, solar, or wind power in mills that are powered in these non-traditional ways. One entire division of Legion, Moab, is powered entirely by the wind and is located within a national park system where there is a huge cal for green processes – the Rocky Mountains.
Other Legion artist papers are completely and totally chlorine free. These TCF – totally chlorine free- papers are made without the use of any chlorine during the bleaching process. Some have not been bleached at all. All of Legions cotton paper is totally chlorine free. This environmentally friendly way of bleaching paper does not have detrimental effects on the environment like chlorine bleaching.
Legion’s handmade papers are leaders when it comes to eco-friendly papers for artists. Handmade papers are tree-free and also free of any chemicals. The entire process of making the paper is undertaken by hand. When compared to the conventional paper mill, the hand-making process for paper uses a lot less energy for each ton of produced paper. This means that handmade papers do not contribute a great deal towards global warming or pollution. In many instances, Legion handmade artist paper is dried with solar energy, so it is clean from start to finish.
And finally, tree free fibers are used whenever possible in making Legion artist paper. Cotton, cork, bamboo, plant fibers, flowers, vegetables and even grass can be used in lieu of trees to create long-lasting, durable, and eco-friendly paper for artists. Many of Legion’s papers are all cotton, like the Entrada rag digital paper to Stonehenge by Legion. The cotton used to make artist paper is not from the easily-recognizable cotton with its telltale white flowers. Instead, cotton linters are used, which is a by-product that is obtained from textile manufacturers. These linters are discarded as rubbish, but are salvaged by Legion in order to make cotton paper. What could be more eco-friendly? The linters that Legion uses would end up in the landfill, but instead become beautiful and durable paper for you!
For these reasons and more, if you are looking for eco-friendly, look no further than Legion artist paper!
