Finding the right sketch pad can be difficult and can involve trial and error. As a general rule of thumb you should select a sketch pad that works well with the pencil that you like to use for sketching. If the paper you use is too thin or too fragile, it can tear or rip with hard lead pencils. Keep in mind that when using soft lead, rough paper usually produces a lot of dust.
