Although today 3M is synonymous with adhesives and pressure-sensitive tape of all kinds, their business began in 1902, when they focused on abrasives for grinding wheels. 3M is known for inventing many new products, such as offset print plates, fabric protector, videotape, overhead projection systems, flexible circuits for items like cell phones, and of course, Post-it® Notes. They hold 589 awarded patents for the items they have developed. Today they are a $27 billion company with 45 technology platforms and operations in more than 65 countries around the world.
