The warm tones of Italy’s earth! Maimeri’s Italian Natural Earth Oil Colors are created with pigments of antique origin that historically characterized not only the regional schools of painting throughout Italy but also the facades of palaces and monuments in Italian city centers. They encompass the colors of Roman houses, Venetian palaces, and Umbrian and Tuscan hill towns. Only a few decades ago, Italy was the main producer of earth pigments for use by industry and artisans. Today’s color vocabulary still contains widely known color names that include Siena Yellow, Umber, Venetian Red, Pozzuoli Red, Herculanum, Rome Black, and Green Earth from Verona. These are the considerations that led Maimeri to add a new range of Italian Natural Earths to its Classico Extrafine Oil Color series. Even throughout the production process, the 11 natural shades in the Italian Natural Earths line retain their ancient formulation. The grain size of the dispersed pigment is larger, the paste is denser, the appearance is more opaque due to a different light refraction, the tone is more natural, and the applied paint coat is thicker than traditional oil paints. Despite the fact that the pigment grain size and milling process are different from that used to make other oil colors, Italian Natural Earths can be mixed with these oil colors, and confer to the paste a denser and more material aspect. Slight variances in the product are a guarantee of the authenticity and natural origin of the colors, which do not contain additional colorants. The Italian Natural Earths color palette has been conceived with the intention of including the entire range of Italian earth colors and developing its full potential. The composition of the range is similar to those used by masters like Tiziano, Vasari, or Tiepolo. Italian Natural Earths can be used for traditional and contemporary artistic expression, but they also satisfy the needs of traditional and folkloric decoration such as furniture decoration and imitations or copies of the Old Masters. Italian Natural Earths are no reproduction of things past, of obsolete or unstable pastes, but the attempt to keep alive all that is good in artistic techniques and colors of past centuries.
