Description: Use your Microwave to Fuse Glass! (Note: requires metal-interior microwave oven, not included) The Fuseworks Microwavable Kiln fires glass quickly and easily: Place your glass project on the kiln-washed base of the kiln (the base is the smaller part). Close the lid (the lid is the larger part), and insert the entire kiln into the microwave oven. Turn the Microwave on. In a few minutes the project piece is fused. (Careful, it's very hot !!) Cool to room temperature on a heat resistant surface (not on a wooden cutting board !!). The entire process is completed in about an hour. If you've been thinking about learning how to fuse glass then this little kiln is a great way to get started. Made of a high tech composite material, it is made especially for firing in a microwave. (The picture shows cabachons which I made using this kiln as examples - they are not included in the purchase.) This kiln measures 3 1/4" H x 4 1/2" wide with an interior platform which measures 2 3/4" so you can easily fire pieces perfect for pendants, earrings and brooches. I've been testing these kilns and have been happy to find that it can reach full fusing temperature (about 1350 degrees) within 4-6 minutes! Amazing. Let cool until completely cool - which is about an hour - and then you've got a lovely little cabachon to use in your jewelry creations. It's very easy to use - cut your glass, stack it in the kiln on a piece of kiln paper which acts as a release, close and hit go. The length of time really depends on the power of your microwave and the effect which you're going for. But after a few pieces you will understand how many minutes to set on your microwave. I like to use a microwave outside which I use only for fusing. (I'm just extra careful. I'm the same way with my polymer clay - I have a toaster oven just for clay baking and never put food in it.) Occasionally you'll get a sharp little corner on your cabachon after you finish. Just use a piece of wet/dry 400 grit sand paper or a carborundum stone under running water to knock that sharpness off. I've been fusing glass for about ten years and own three large kilns and just love this baby! I use this little kiln when I want to quickly test out an idea or just want to fire polish a small piece without having to fill an entire regular kiln. It's fabulous! This is a fun inexpensive intro to glass fusing which will have you ready to leap into the wonderful world of glass! Hooray! Comes with complete instructions. Not a toy for children.
