Choosing the Best Airbrush Set or Airbrush Kit
One of the best ways to get your start in airbrushing is to purchase a kit that contains everything you need to begin creating beautiful airbrushed artwork and items right away (other than the compressor kit, which is usually sold separately). An airbrush kit contains an airbrush gun, airbrush needle, stencils for airbrushing, and paints. When selecting an airbrush kit, you will need to choose between two types of airbrush guns – single action or double action. A single action airbrush is good for spraying a solid area, but it is not designed for blending. Most airbrush artists use a double action airbrush with a push-pull control. This type of airbrush is more versatile and allows for color fading and blending.
If you are planning to airbrush up close, then it is not advisable to buy a gravity feed airbrush because the cup is on the top of the gun and that will block your view somewhat, although many artists say that this type of gun allows them to easily control the paint and the air pressure. Siphon feed airbrush systems have some advantages over gravity feed types because they have a bigger paint cup and the paint cup can be changed out as needed – which can be a valuable asset if you are airbrushing a large area.
The airbrush kit that you buy will also depend on the use that you have for it. If you plan to use the airbrush to create t-shirts, you will need a different type of airbrush kit than one that you’d need for makeup airbrushing. Determine what you will airbrush before you begin comparing models. And keep in mind that price, although a definite consideration for most folks, should not be the only thing that you use to compare an airbrush kit’s quality. There are many reasonably priced airbrush sets on the market that are just as good from the aspect of functionality and performance as their higher priced counterparts.
